Biography

Hailing previously from Arizona and most recently from Orem, Utah, Jon joins the SCS team bringing with him 30 years of experience working with adolescents and families. From supervising individuals and clinical teams at various levels of care to building a booming private practice (right across the street from a high school) from the ground up, Jon has dedicated his personal and professional pursuits to helping adolescents, young adults, and their families overcome debilitating mental health challenges. Specializing in treating ADHD, abuse, depression, and anxiety has allowed Jon to spend decades supporting life changing adolescent mental health intervention that leads adolescents to happy healthy lives.

His experience on the corporate side of adolescent mental health allowed Jon to diversify his ability to apply his clinical skills working with employees and supporting EAP programs, leading mental health teams in inpatient hospital and ER settings, directing the Mental Health Counseling Program at Arizona State University, teaching college level classes in the Behavioral Sciences and providing IOP level of care for both adolescents and adults with Substance Use Disorders.

Jon’s work as a full-time high school counselor allowed him to work with students on academic and emotional concerns and to collaborate with teachers to advocate for students who had both emotional and learning challenges. His early career experience working with adolescents and children with severe learning disabilities and behavioral issues also prepared him to really appreciate the AMAZING work we do at SCS by providing truly collaborative, interdependent intervention offered by SCS academic and therapeutic support teams. In his words, “you guys have REALLY dialed in this academic piece. It really is interdependent! No wonder you’re getting such great results. Nobody does it like this!”

Jon is full of funny stories, amusing anecdotes, is a talented musician and loves Seinfeld. He is also a devoted husband, father, friend, and a great guy to have in the foxhole with you if you’re an adolescent struggling with mental health!

Jon is thrilled to be on board for the exciting work SCS is doing to lead the charge in breaking down the barriers that keep our community from improving adolescent mental health and find his work at SCS a wildly rewarding ride!
