Biography
Megan has three main passions in her life: recreating, helping people, and her family/friends. All three of those passions are encompassed with her job here at SCS. She has worked with youth from a young age and was originally going to become an elementary teacher, but when she found out she could work with youth doing experiential activities versus math and science she was all in! She graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy and immediately got a job working with teens a year after graduation. She worked at a residential treatment center for 12 years running a ropes course, teaching a rock-climbing class, leading an adventure camping program, and creating their recreation therapy program. She loves taking a recreational experience and using it as a therapy modality to teach life lessons, address behaviors in the moment, and create a safe place to practice learned skills or to inspire some self-awareness.

Megan has two boys of her own, 13 (an official teen now) and 10.  She and her boys love to go on adventurous hikes (and by “love” she means that she gets to convince them it will be fun and practically pulls them out of the house, though once they get going they almost always enjoy it) which include, but are not limited to, winter hikes to frozen waterfalls, slot canyons and/or hot springs. Some of her hobbies include rock climbing, camping, playing sports, working out, and basically doing most anything recreational, especially if it’s in the great outdoors, with the exception of mountain biking down a steep, rock filled, terrifying hill.

Mental health has always intrigued Megan, both in her own personal life in improving herself, and in helping others. She cares deeply for those in her life. She takes this care, her interest in mental health, and her passion for recreation, and merges them together in order to help and serve people in her profession. Megan loves what she does and is so blessed to be able to do what she loves for her career each and every day.

Megan believes that every person is innately good, it’s the choices we make that define us. And once we learn the tools to make good choices, the world is our oyster.
