Biography

Doug worked at Primary Children’s Hospital on the Inpatient Psychiatric team as individual and family therapist, and as a therapist for families at-risk of homelessness, living a transitional living program in Salt Lake County. Previous related experience also includes therapist at a residential treatment program for adolescents, social worker for the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, completing psychological assessments for youth in State’s custody, and as a therapist at two university counseling centers.

Doug completed his doctoral training in Clinical Psychology from Brigham Young University and completed an APA accredited internship as an outpatient therapist at Primary Children’s Center for Counseling and Primary Children’s Safe and Health Families. Areas of clinical expertise include family therapy, parenting solutions, relationship-focused interventions, trauma treatment, assessment and intervention of suicide and self-harming behaviors, anxiety, depression, and mood regulation. Doug is compassionate, thoughtful, and believes in considering the whole context in working with youth and their families at Summit Counseling Solutions. His passion is to help youth and their families work through destructive cycles of mistrust, hurt, disharmony, and trauma towards a more meaningful and cohesive family unit and in relationship with oneself and others.

In his free time Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, coaching soccer, traveling, cooking, gardening, camping, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and running.
